SHERIFF TOMPKINS ENDORSED BY MAJORITY OF BOSTON ELECTED OFFICIALS
BOSTON - Suffolk County Sheriff Steve Tompkins today announced the support of elected official across Boston for his campaign for reelection. From the City Council to the State Legislature, Tompkins has garnered widespread support for his work around addiction recovery and reentry services, and his role as a leader in the community.
“Sheriff Steve Tompkins is an outstanding leader in Boston on criminal justice reform, re-entry programs and mental health and substance use treatment programs for our returning citizens. Sheriff Tompkins cares deeply about the people of Boston and Suffolk County and the challenges returning citizens face. I’m especially proud to support and endorse Sheriff Tompkins because he is a person of integrity and someone that works tirelessly for the residents of Suffolk County and treats everyone with dignity and respect.” said Ed Flynn, President of the Boston City Council
Over the course of his nine-plus years in the office, Sheriff Tompkins has brought a commitment to civic responsibility and voter equality into both, the Suffolk County House of Correction and Suffolk County Jail. The activities include; holding voter registration drives for the voting-eligible men and women in his population, and, this past year, working with the City of Boston on the installation of ballot boxes within the lobbies of the two facilities. He also brought a first-of-its-kind series inside the House of Correction, featuring candidates for various elected offices who present before members of the population for evaluation as their next potential District Attorney, United States Senator and Mayor.
“Steve Tompkins understands that his job is to be a guardian and caretaker of those in the Suffolk County House of Correction. He believes in the humanity and resilience of all. What amazes me is how he hosts forums for people in his care to hold politicians accountable. It makes me a better public servant to meet ALL of the public where they are and better understand the impact of my lawmaking.” said State Senator Lydia Edwards
"I am honored to support my friend Sheriff Steve Tompkins for re-election as Suffolk County Sheriff. Steve is a caring and compassionate public servant who has never forgotten that government is about helping people and making a difference in the lives of others. He's a proven leader who has the experience that is needed right now in the Suffolk County Sheriff's office. Experience counts and it counts now more than ever, and that's why I am so proud to support Sheriff Tompkins!" concluded State Representative Rob Consalvo.
